Introducing Rotten Dollies and 4am Studio – a unification

A lot of artists have altered egos; whether it’s David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust or Vincent Furnier’s Alice Cooper – it’s a chance to live or perform in a way that is a little bit quirky, comfortable or at times, uncomfortable. That’s exactly what Rotten Dollies is – my second artistic ego which is a bit more gritty, edgy and yet kind of cute (?).
Rotten Dollies has been described as “…a different style; her [Alana’s] work is rough at the edges with a bit of a bite.” And I think that sums it up pretty well!

Because 4am Studio is now my main focus, Rotten Dollies has been neglected – it takes a lot of determination to manage both and keep them separate as the styles and projects at times overlap, so now it’s time to merge the two – they’ll still be a little different but you will still see my style coming through each of the brands, and at the end of the day it shouldn’t be in a name, it’s the creations and that it is still enjoyable to do – right?

So, without further ado, introducing Rotten Dollies & 4am Studio – a unification.

Rotten Dollies began as ‘designer’ plush toys/art way back in 2005 whilst I was studying towards my degree – the name included Rotten because that’s what my sewing was, absolutely!

An attempt of plush that resembled a cat and a turtle were created and given to family members for Christmas. From then on there had been many more attempts of plush resembling other animals such as bees, bunnies and bats but 2007 saw Rotten Dollies being pushed further in ways of design and the completion of a first pattern was produced.

Since 2005 there have been approximately over 100+ creations made with several custom orders and patterns being changed over the time. Rotten Dollies has transformed its focus more on illustrations and gig posters whilst still creating the quirky and weird characters that reside in my imagination.

Moving forward, not much will change for you (the customer, follower or friend), I will still be creating websites, graphic design projects and illustrations but I also will be introducing the other stuff I dabble in, including costume make-up, hand-painted apparel, sculptures and more … the latter just might have a dash of ‘Rotten’ to them.
