Depending on where you are putting the ‘sticker’ and how it looks, will and can determine whether you opt for digitally printed stickers or getting vinyl cut decals.
VINYL CUT DECALS
A vinyl decal is one that can be cut using a cutting machine into shapes and letters with adhesive on one side that adheres to signs, vehicles, windows, walls, apparel and more. No ink or print process is used.
- Usually only 1 – 3 (max) layers of vinyl at a time
- Finite number of colors produced
- Higher longevity
- Can not go too small
- Comes in matte, gloss, metallic, holographic, glitter, chrome &
- more
- Inside and outside use
- Comes with transfer tape
- Produced on-site
- Labour involved (weeding & application)
Logos/lettering that use blended colours, shadows, gradients or fading cannot be done using standard vinyl colours. Instead, you would need to digitally print these designs on a printable vinyl and then cut.
DIGITAL/PRINTED STICKERS
A digitally printed sticker can use more intricate designs and colours (generally with an adhesive on one side) that can be cut in shapes (Die-Cut.) or custom cut (‘Kiss Cut’) generally used for packaging, promotion or gifts.
- 1 layer (solid print)
- Can print colour-specific (including shades, fades & gradients)
- Lower longevity
- Any size with detailed elements
- Can be printed on an assortment of vinyls and/or papers, including transparent, and metallic
- Short, medium or long-term, different adhesives available
- Inside and outside use
- Produced off-site (via third-party printers)
- No labour involved, simply ‘peel and stick’
